||128||: What is Kindness?

The Oxford Dictionary says, “the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate” (OD, 2021).

The Merriam Webster Dictionary states, “the quality or state of being kind treating people with kindness and respect, a kind deed: favor, affection” (MW, 2021).

I like to think of kindness as a character trait, they we can choose to be, both honest and kind, sharing true intentions. I’m sure some may argue that kindness doesn’t always work, sometimes we need to be blunt, precise and it may hurt the others feelings. I’ll say intentions are important and you’re only in control of your own actions.

As I hope to be factual, considerate, and aware, being kind and considerate of other persons feelings is a priority of mine.

There are songs such as, “Kill them with kindness” by Selena Gomez, gestures such as “Pay it forward” and “Random acts of kindness”.

We are encouraged to think about the people around us and find opportunities to give, not just our money, we can give our time and talents.

✨💛 I encourage you to think of something you can do for someone else: family, friend, partner/spouse or stranger, you choose. They’ll be a moment where you can step in naturally, sometimes it takes planning and extra hands.

✨💛 Be sure to be safe, giving within your means and unattached to the outcome. Give without expectation.

As we learn to form boundaries that are best for us, I hope that by giving and affirming others, that every person connected and contributing is blessed, lives enriched.

I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”

William Penn

Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.”

Albert Schweitzer

Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.”
